En esta cuarta edición les presentamos a dos artistas chilenos que, de una u otra manera, y no de manera exclusiva, dedican su trabajo a expresar su opinión frente el acontecer nacional chileno, convirtiéndose en “Artivistas”.
El guitarrista Gino Beltrami, que emigró a Suiza a los 18 años de edad y vive actualmente en el cantón St. Gallen. Su vida está impregnada de una interesante historia familiar y personal centrada en el activismo político-social, que él ha decidido canalizar a través de la música.
El pintor-poeta KID Rodo, nos encanta con la plasticidad de sus obras, las cuales están llenas de emociones. En sus propias palabras, “La maldad que vemos y sentimos en el mundo es real. Pero es de nuestra responsabilidad buscar y compartir los puntos de belleza. Eso es el arte, encontrar/ver y compartir esa belleza. Y la mayor belleza, la mayor obra por lejos es la naturaleza”.

“EL ARTE Y LA CULTURA DENUNCIAN, NO ESTÁN EN GUERRA.”
Gino Beltrami
Gino Beltrami es guitarrista, bajista y oriundo de Valparaíso. Creció en la Población Márquez, en el sector de la aduana, como hijo de una familia dedicada al negocio de la imprenta.
La música siempre estuvo presente en su vida. Inspirado por su primo Manolo, guitarrista y compositor, descubrió la pasión por la guitarra a temprana edad. Recuerda: “Escuché el cassette que había grabado, con temas compuestos por él mismo. Me impresionó lo que podía hacer con la guitarra y quise aprender”.
Visitó el Conservatorio de la Universidad Católica en Valparaíso de niño, pero el mayor aprendizaje lo hizo de manera autodidacta, con la música de Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés y Chico Buarque.
En el colegio Winterhill de Viña del Mar participó del grupo musical “Aucán Paicaví”, con los que tocaba en eventos escolares y festivales, temas de Inti Illmani, Quilapallún y otros grupos folclóricos de música popular chilena. Nos comparte: “Esa fue mi primera experiencia tocando con músicos talentosos, aprendí mucho y supe que eso era lo que realmente me gustaba. Trabajar con otras personas en proyectos musicales grupales”.
Entre 1988 y 1989, por causa de la dictadura militar su familia decidió emigrar a Suiza y Gino con 18 años, los siguió. Aunque la decisión no fue fácil, pensó: “Hay muchas formas de seguir luchado a través del arte y la música”.
Tocando en las calles de Zürich en los años 90, conoció a músicos como Miguel Caldito (España) que hace rumba flamenca y luego, junto al ecuatoriano Johnny Inigues (Voz, Guitarra), el chileno Fernando Javier Aranda (Voz), el cubano Adolfo Albelo (percusión) y el boliviano Yuri Gutiérrez (trompeta), formaron la banda Sandunga. “Subíamos a los tranvías, en una época donde nadie más lo hacía y tocábamos algo suavecito como La Garota de Ipanema. La gente no sabía muy bien cómo reaccionar, pero nos escuchaban y luego aportaban a la colecta para los músicos de sudamericanos, que andaban viajando”, recuerda.
Sandunga funciona hasta hoy como una comunidad de músicos latinoamericanos, donde los tres fundadores originales, incluyendo a Gino, van invitando a otros músicos a compartir escenario para hacer música bailable de Latinoamérica como el son cubano, ritmos de Brasil, la cumbia, la salsa, el bolero y el Latin-Jazz, presentándose en vivo por toda Suiza.
Actualmente, todos ellos tienen trabajos formales, pero la banda es el espacio donde pueden volcar toda su creatividad.
Para ellos la realidad social de América Latina está presente siempre, por lo que continuamente participan en eventos a beneficio de distintas causas, incluyendo desde octubre de 2019, varios en ayuda de las víctimas de represión policial durante el estallido social en Chile.
Como muchas otras bandas, Sandunga ha visto interrumpidas sus presentaciones por causa de la Pandemia, pero Gino aprovecha esta pausa obligada para recargar baterías y volver con nuevas energías e ideas musicales a seguir consiguiendo lugares y espacios donde expresar y difundir su música Latinoamericana, con nuevos contratos para la Banda.

KID Rodo
Rodo Olave Navarro (1984) o también conocido en el mundo del arte como KID RODO, oriundo de Valparaíso, se destaca por su plasticidad. Pintor, poeta y tarotista. También estudió y trabajó en publicidad.
“La publicidad, es tan bonita y perfecta, que en mis obras hago todo lo contrario. Pintar es real”, comenta.
Así nos sumergimos en su arte, principalmente la pintura, la cuál nos cuenta nace: “sin saber dibujar, ni pintar, sin dominar ningún tipo de técnica. Pinto sin hacer bocetos previos, voy directo a ver que pasa”.
Su arte nace desde la espontaneidad, como una herramienta para desahogar su sentir y pasarla bien “hasta quedarse vacío”, buscando expresar lo que no puede decir en palabras. Nos dice: “Chile es un país extremadamente desigual, es un país pobre y, sobre todo, un país carente de resguardo social para sus habitantes. Por lo cual el dolor y el sufrimiento se ve simplemente saliendo a la calle. Y es por eso que algunas de mis obras tienen ese descontento. Esa pena, rabia y dolor simplemente va a salir. Y en mi caso, a veces me pilla pintando”.
Al invitarnos a ver sus obras nos cuenta: “podrás ver personitas juntas, apretadas, sintiéndose, conectando. También podrás ver rostros de personas, pieles, partes internas del cuerpo, células y hasta monstruos. Básicamente pinto lo que siento estando vivo”.
A pesar de ser la pintura su principal modo de expresión, su poesía rebosa sentimientos cálidos y de apreciación, especialmente hacia su familia y personas claves en su vida. También nos encontramos con otro tipo de poesía, tan potente y vinculante como la anterior, una poesía llena de sentimientos de frustración proclamando empatía, justicia y dignidad.
“Hay quienes sueñan con un país más moderno.
Con un Mapocho navegable,
con autos voladores,
más shopping,
más tecnología de punta,
más máquinas y trabajadores robots.
Nosotros en cambio,
soñamos con un país con mayor resguardo social, educación y salud de calidad y gratuita,
y por supuesto, que no nos caguemos ni matemos entre nosotros.
Eso nomás soñamos, eso nada más pedimos.”

In this fourth edition we present two Chilean artists who, in one way or another, and not exclusively, dedicate their work to expressing their opinion on the Chilean national event, becoming "Artivists".
Guitarist Gino Beltrami, who emigrated to Switzerland at the age of 18 and currently lives in the canton of St. Gallen. His life is impregnated with an interesting family and personal history centered on political-social activism, which he has decided to channel through music.
The painter-poet KID Rodo, we love the plasticity of his works, which are full of emotions. In his own words, “The evil we see and feel in the world is real. But it is our responsibility to seek and share the beauty points. That is art, finding / seeing and sharing that beauty. And the greatest beauty, the greatest work by far is nature ”.

"ART AND CULTURE REPORT, THEY ARE NOT AT WAR."
Gino Beltrami
Gino Beltrami is a guitarist, bassist and a native of Valparaíso. He grew up in the Márquez Population, in the customs sector, as the son of a family dedicated to the printing business.
Music was always present in his life. Inspired by his cousin Manolo, a guitarist and composer, he discovered a passion for the guitar at an early age. He remembers: “I listened to the cassette he had recorded, with songs composed by himself. He impressed me with what he could do with the guitar and I wanted to learn ”.
He visited the Conservatory of the Catholic University of Valparaíso as a child, but the greatest learning of him was done in a self-taught way, with the music of Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés and Chico Buarque. At the Winterhill school in Viña del Mar he participated in the musical group “Aucán Paicaví”, with whom he played at school events and festivals, songs by Inti Illmani, Quilapallún and other folk groups of Chilean popular music. He shares: “That was my first experience playing with talented musicians, I learned a lot and I knew that was what I really liked. Work with other people on group music projects ”.
Between 1988 and 1989, due to the military dictatorship, his family decided to emigrate to Switzerland and Gino, aged 18, followed them. Although the decision was not easy, he thought: "There are many ways to continue fighting through art and music."
Playing in the streets of Zürich in the 90s, he met musicians such as Miguel Caldito (Spain) who does flamenco rumba and later, together with the Ecuadorian Johnny Inigues (Voice, Guitar), the Chilean Fernando Javier Aranda (Voice), the Cuban Adolfo Albelo (percussion) and the Bolivian Yuri Gutiérrez (trumpet), formed the band Sandunga. “We would get on the trams, at a time when nobody else did and we would play something soft like La Garota de Ipanema. People didn't really know how to react, but they listened to us and then contributed to the collection for the South American musicians, who were traveling, ”he recalls.
Sandunga functions to this day as a community of Latin American musicians, where the three original founders, including Gino, are inviting other musicians to share the stage to make dance music from Latin America such as Cuban son, Brazilian rhythms, cumbia, salsa, the bolero and Latin-Jazz, performing live throughout Switzerland.
Currently, all of them have formal jobs, but the band is the space where they can pour all their creativity. For them, the social reality of Latin America is always present, so they continuously participate in events for the benefit of different causes, including since October 2019, several in aid of the victims of police repression during the social outbreak in Chile.
Like many other bands, Sandunga has seen its presentations interrupted due to the Pandemic, but Gino takes advantage of this forced pause to recharge batteries and return with new energies and musical ideas to continue finding places and spaces where to express and disseminate his Latin American music. with new contracts for the Band.

KID Rodo
Rodo Olave Navarro (1984) also known as KID RODO, is originally from Valparaiso, Chile. Painter, poet and tarotist.
Olave studied and worked in advertising. “Advertising is beautiful and perfect. In my work as an artist though, I do the opposite. Painting is real”.
Olave tells us that he was born: "without any artistic talent. I could not draw, nor paint. I did not know nor master any kind of techniques. I paint without making previous sketches. I through myself straight into the canvas to see what happens."
Olave uses art as a tool to voice his feelings and have a good time. He paints "until he is empty". In his paintings, he seeks to express what he cannot express in words. "Inequality runs rampant in Chile. Its citizens have no social protection. Just go out into the streets of any city in Chile and you, immediately, will became aware of the pain and suffering of the Chilean people. That grief, the anger and the pain sometimes come to me while painting."
As he invites us to see his works, he tells us: " In my work you can see little people closed together, very tightly, feeling connected. You will also see people's faces, people’s skin, internal body parts, cells and even monsters. When I am alive, I paint what I feel."
His favorite manner of expression and communication is through his paintings. As a poet, his poetry is filled with warm feelings and appreciation, especially towards his family and the key people in his life. Yet, he also writes another kind of poetry, as powerful and binding as the previous one. This other poetry speaks of frustration, empathy, justice, and dignity.
"There are those who dream of a more modern country,
with an Inland Waterway: Mapocho,
with flying cars,
more shopping,
more state-of-the-art technology,
more machines and robot workers.
We, on the other hand,
We dream of a country with greater social legislation, quality and free education and health,
and of course, let us not hurt nor kill each other.
That is all we dream of, that is all we ask."
