“Mari mari kom pu che!” nos saluda Paola Linconao Caniulaf (voz, guitarra electroacústica e instrumentos mapuches), quien, junto a Nicolás Molina Rojas (bajo eléctrico y coros), Patricio Chico Alarcón (guitarra eléctrica y coros) y Javier Huiliñir Curío (batería) componen INCHE (palabra del mapudungun, que significa YO SOY).
INCHE se inicia en julio del año 2017 en Temuco. Sus integrantes se agruparon, como nos cuentan, para “promover la cultura Mapuche por medio del liderazgo femenino, fusionando los sonidos ancestrales con el rock y rescatando en las letras aspectos de la cosmovisión de este Pueblo, el rol de la mujer Mapuche y la memoria histórica”.
Durante el 2018 y 2019 comenzaron el proceso creativo de canciones, letras y ritmos, buscando resaltar el sentido ritual que tiene la música Mapuche, ligándolo también a los sonidos del rock clásico y Latinoamericanos. En este contexto presentaron su trabajo musical en distintos escenarios del Wallmapu, festivales del territorio y visitando espacios culturales de las ciudades de Los Ángeles, Valdivia, Concepción y Santiago.
INCHE manifiesta la necesidad latente de concientizar a los Pueblos de Chile para reconstruir su memoria histórica, con el fin de que no vuelvan a ocurrir hechos sangrientos similares a la mal llamada “Pacificación de la Araucanía” o se detengan los actuales procesos traumáticos de discriminación y abuso contra el pueblo Mapuche. Los invitamos a escuchar el audio completo (link al final de este artículo), donde comparten su visión frente a las demandas sociales actuales en Chile y su esperanza en las nuevas generaciones, para construir juntos un nuevo país, que respete también a todas las Naciones indígenas que viven en su territorio.
En marzo del año 2020 editaron su primer disco, titulado “INCHE EN LOF EL TUME”. Este material musical está compuesto por canciones como: “Berta y Nicolasa” y “Pichikeche”, que reflejan el territorio y la naturaleza que habitan estos músicos, así como también una fuerte conexión emocional con el mismo.
La banda trabaja, además, para dar a conocer las voces de las y los Mapuche en diferentes territorios. Así, el 31 de julio pasado han estrenado un espacio cultural en formato de Podcast, titulado “RECONSTRUYENDO NUESTRA HISTORIA”. Profesionales, académicos y académicas Mapuche, así como dirigentes, músicos e investigadores, son entrevistados en un ambiente íntimo y ameno por la vocalista de INCHE. Abordan el tema de la “identidad”, compartiendo su experiencia personal y profesional.
Los invitados y las invitadas explican, desde sus vivencias, como han logrado definir su identidad y vivir como Mapuche en una sociedad que los discrimina, haciéndoles sentir negativamente diferentes, sin olvidar que comparten una lucha común que los identifica y une como Pueblo. Aquí el concepto de identidad está en construcción y deconstrucción constante y traspasa distintas áreas, como el arte, la cultura, la educación, etc.
Este interesante Podcast sobre identidad cuenta con 12 episodios de entrevistas y esperan continuar con la segunda temporada, y lanzar cinco cápsulas audiovisuales bajo el concepto “Reconstruyendo Nuestra Historia: desde el territorio a la música”.
Para culminar el año 2020, estrenaron “VOCES ANCESTRALES”, trabajo realizado en colaboración con el compositor y productor musical Alekos Vuskovic Gutiérrez. Esta canción, se inspira en los hechos de discriminación hacia el pueblo Mapuche en el Wallmapu en agosto de 2020 y entrega una visión del “ser mujer Mapuche” en tiempos pasados, presente y futuros, rescatando la sabiduría y fuerza ancestral ante las distintas formas de violencias ejercidas por el Estado chileno.
Este año, la agrupación musical estrenó en febrero la primera temporada de “Cuentos Reconstruyendo Nuestra Historia: para conocernos y acercarnos más”. Son seis relatos creados por Paola y que fueron ilustrados por niñas y niños de diversos territorios, urbanos y rurales. Además, participaron recientemente en el Festival de Cine de Lebu con el cortometraje documental” INCHE: canto de vertiente”, creado por Luis Renato Hermosilla.
Sin duda, INCHE es una banda muy activa que tiene mucho que compartir y aportar. Planean poder estrenar un nuevo trabajo musical en 2021, el cual se espera ya con mucho interés.

“Mari mari kom pu che!” Greets us Paola Linconao Caniulaf (voice, electroacoustic guitar and Mapuche instruments), who along with Nicolás Molina Rojas (electric bass and choruses), Patricio Chico Alarcón (electric guitar and chorus) and Javier Huiliñir Curío (battery) created INCHE (word in mapudungun language, translated into English as I AM).
INCHE was born in Temuco in July 2017. The group’s objective is “to promote Mapuche culture through female leadership, integrating ancestral sounds with rock, rescuing in “words” aspects of the world-vision regarding their people, the role of the Mapuche women, and their historical memory". The members of INCHE began writing songs, lyrics and rhythms in July of 2017. They set themselves to highlight the ceremonial meaning of the Mapuche music, linking it later withthe sounds of classical and Latin American rock.
In this context they performed their work throughout the ancestral territory of the Mapuche people and nation, located in southern Chile: the Wallmapu. The group concentrated their attention in the Cultural Centers of the cities of Los Angeles, Valdivia, Concepción and Santiago.
INCHE stresses the constant need to raise awareness among the “chilenos” of the Mapuche presence in the country. By doing this, the Mapuche people will be able to rebuild their historical memory, hence bloody events similar to the so-called "Pacification of the Araucanía" does not happen again. Today, in Chile, the Mapuche People endures recurrent practices of discrimination and abuse. These practices must be stopped. The Band is committed to the advancement of the Mapuche Culture. Their campaign applies the new technology available to them. Their first recording album (2020) was “INCHE EN LOF EL TUME” which includes the songs “Berta y Nicolasa” and “Pichikeche”. It reflects the strong connection between their emotions and, its territory and nature. This album was released last year.
They have created a Podcast entitled “REBUILDING OUR HISTORY”. Mapuche professionals, academics, leaders, musicians and researchers are interviewed in an intimate and friendly atmosphere by INCHE's vocalist. They address the theme of "identity", sharing their personal and professional experience.
The guests explain, from their experiences, how they have managed to define their identity and live as Mapuche in a society that discriminates against them, making them feel negatively different, without forgetting that they share a common struggle that identifies and unites them as Nation. Here the concept of identity is in constant construction and deconstruction and crosses different areas, such as art, culture, education, etc.
This interesting Podcast about identity has 12 episodes of interviews and they hope to continue with the second season, and also launch five audiovisual capsules under the concept "Reconstructing Our History: from the territory to the music".
To culminate the year 2020, they released "VOCES ANCESTRALES", a work done in collaboration with composer and music producer Alekos Vuskovic Gutiérrez. This song is inspired by the facts of DISCRIMINATION and VIOLENCE against the Mapuche people in the Wallmapu in August 2020 and delivers a vision of "being a Mapuche woman" in past, present and future times, rescuing the ancestral wisdom and strength in the face of the different forms of violence exercised by the Chilean State.
This year, in February, the musical group premiered the first season of "Cuentos Reconstruyendo Nuestra Historia: para conocernos y acercarnos más" (Stories Reconstructing Our History: to get to know each other and get closer). There are six stories created by Paola and illustrated by children from different urban and rural areas. They also recently participated in the Lebu Film Festival with the short documentary film "INCHE: canto de vertiente", created by Luis Renato Hermosilla.
